RailHawks Soccer

I was able to get Media passes to Carolina Rail hawks Soccer.
The Rail Hawks play in the USL first division.

Rail Hawks Website

I had not shot soccer since last fall and the end of High school and college soccer in our area. After shooting Lacrosse all spring it took me a while to adjust to the pace of the game. And to also adjust to the lights on a field I had never shoot at before.
Looking forward to my next outing at Wake Med soccer park and another Rail Hawks Game!!!

Slideshow UNC vs Maryland Lacrosse

Strobist HighSchool Basketball

We all know what a pain it to shoot in High school gym's
This past season I got 2 SB800's , Radio triggers and some clamps to mount my flashes
I mounted them half way up the bleachers on both sides of the court (about 15' off court level)
I aimed them at the top of the key and at about players head height so as to feather the light in
I set flash zoom at 50mm power at 1/4 ( helped with recycle time) and ISO 400-500 F3.5-4
I was quite happy with the results. Here is a slide show of a few of my favorites
Here is a picture of Radio receiver attached to post and clamp -- this gets attached
to rails on ends of bleachers

Shooting Lacrosse

This is my first post so I thought I would post about my favorite sport to shoot ---Lacrosse
This year I was lucky to cover ACC lacrosse action at Duke and UNC for Lax.com. I also cover High school sports in central North Carolina.

When shooting I like to set up about 10 yards behind goal line extended on the sideline. Get low so you are shooting up into the Helmets!!! From this area on the field you can catch both offense and defense.

I also like to get about 10 to 15 yards on either side of center of field and shoot back at the goal from this position. You can catch some really good goalie saves from here as well as offensive and defensive action.

Do some home work and find out who the play makers are. This will help you catch some peak action. Learning players tendencies will pay off in some Great Shots!!! this is true in all sports.
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US, so if there is no organized Lacrosse in your area there will be soon
